This book was released on 2020-07-31 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OMG! I’m the Grown-Up! gives care-givers an innovative strategy for managing the interpersonal dynamics of giving-care she calls the Praxis for Care. This book presents the Praxis for Care as a strategy that guides care-givers toward taking actions that are satisfying to both persons. It is a practical, easily applied approach that balances the care recipient’s needs with those of the care-giver. Dr. Yarbrough likens giving-care to riding a teeter-totter where the needs of both persons go up and down based on the circumstances at hand. As a care-giver, Dr. Yarbrough has experienced how easily one can forget herself while meeting a loved one’s care needs. That experience taught her that care-giving and giving-care are two fundamentally different practices. According Dr. Yarbrough, care-giving is what you do for your loved one; giving-care is what you do for both of you. OMG! I’m the Grown-Up! guides readers through the Praxis for Care. Using thinking points, self-reflection, and journal exercises readers build an individualized care journey for providing the best care for both people.
Download Free Growing Older in World Cities PDF by Victor Rodwin Full Book and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Population aging often provokes fears of impending social security deficits, uncontrollable medical expenditures, and transformations in living arrangements, but public policy could also stimulate social innovations. These issues are typically studied at the national level; yet they must be resolved where most people live--in diverse neighborhoods in cities. New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo are the four largest cities among the wealthiest, most developed nations of the world. The essays commissioned for this volume compare what it is like to grow older in these cities with respect to health care, quality of life, housing, and long-term care. The contributors look beyond aggregate national data to highlight the importance of how local authorities implement policies.

Download Free Family Care and Social Capital: Transitions in Informal Care PDF by Patrick Barrett Full Book and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-04 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming a caregiver is increasingly an inevitable experience for many people and, therefore, a likely life transition. Drawing on research and personal experiences of working with family caregivers, this book examines a range of family caregiving situations from across the life course. It seeks to capture the dynamics of caregiving in a number of common situations: caregiving during infancy, for adults who acquire a disability through accidents or illness, for older people with age-related issues, and caregiving by children and adolescent carers and grandparent carers. In drawing attention to key moments of vulnerability faced by family and informal caregivers, and by suggesting how to assist ‘reconnection’ at these moments, the book provides a guide for those working in the area of health, disability and care. Informal care is conceptualised as occurring with the context of personal interrelationships, these being nested within wider kin networks and linked with wider professional formal care networks. Informal care is seen both as an expression of social capital and as an activity that builds social capital. It is an indicator of resources of mutual support within social networks, and it has the effect of adding to the stock of social resources. The book makes a case, therefore, for facilitating the development of social capital by strengthening the capacity of informal caregivers and caregiver groups, and by improving the linkages with formal care organisations.
