Download Free Weaving Relationships PDF by Kathryn Anderson Full Book and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weaving Relationships tells the remarkable, little-known story of a movement that transcends barriers of geography, language, culture, and economic disparity. The story begins in the early 1980s, when 200,000 Maya men, women, and children crossed the Guatemalan border into Mexico, fleeing genocide by the Guatemalan army and seeking refuge. A decade later, many of the refugees returned to their homeland along with 140 Canadians, members of “Project Accompaniment”. The Canadians were there, by their side, to provide companionship and, more significantly, as an act of solidarity. Weaving Relationships describes the historical roots of this solidarity focusing on the Maya in Guatemala. It relates the story of “Project Accompaniment” and two of its founders in Canada, the Christian Task Force on Central America and the Maritimes-Guatemala “Breaking the Silence” Network. It reveals solidarity’s impact on the Canadians and Guatemalans whose lives have been changed by the experience of relationships across borders. It presents solidarity not as a work of charity apart from or “for” them but as a bond of mutuality, of friendship and common struggle with those who are marginalized, excluded, and impoverished in this world. This book speaks of a spirituality based on community and justice, and challenges the church to move beyond its preoccupation with its own survival to solidarity with those who are suffering. It is a book about hope in the face of death and despair.

Download Free The Chicken and the Quetzal PDF by Paul Kockelman Full Book and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Chicken and the Quetzal Paul Kockelman theorizes the creation, measurement, and capture of value by recounting the cultural history of a village in Guatemala's highland cloud forests and its relation to conservation movements and ecotourism. In 1990 a group of German ecologists founded an NGO to help preserve the habitat of the resplendent quetzal—the strikingly beautiful national bird of Guatemala—near the village of Chicacnab. The ecotourism project they established in Chicacnab was meant to provide new sources of income for its residents so they would abandon farming methods that destroyed quetzal habitat. The pressure on villagers to change their practices created new values and forced negotiations between indigenous worldviews and the conservationists' goals. Kockelman uses this story to offer a sweeping theoretical framework for understanding the entanglement of values as they are interpreted and travel across different and often incommensurate ontological worlds. His theorizations apply widely to studies of the production of value, the changing ways people make value portable, and value's relationship to ontology, affect, and selfhood.
Download Free Dawn on Kukulkan PDF by Jock Whitehouse Full Book and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this exhilarating sequel to his acclaimed Ledge of Quetzal, Whitehouse takes us to the sacred ballgame at Chichen Itza (Kukulkan) that will determine the fate of human life on earth. In the tradition of Carlos Castaneda and Paolo Coelho, Jock Whitehouse’s Dawn on Kukulkan returns us to the magical landscape of Southern Mexico and the further spiritual adventures of Daniel Bancroft, the protagonist hero of The Ledge of Quetzal. After witnessing the Great Economic Meltdown of September 2008, and the shattering of a collective confidence in the future, Daniel once again finds himself flying to Mexico on a sacred journey – this time to the great playing field that lies at the entrance to Kukulkan, the Mayan temple at Chichen Itza, where a ballgame to determine the fate of life on earth is to be played out before sunrise on 12/21/2012. An intimate journey of personal transformation and spiritual awakening, this book is also a wake-up call in fable form: we can reverse the destructive course of humanity but only if we are courageous enough to dismantle the illusion of our differences and embrace our connection as one human family.

Download Free Buddha’S Tooth PDF by U. C. Fate Full Book and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U. C. Fate has only one little thing to do before he dies. That is, to kill God. The novel opens on the very day Fate has scheduled for this public execution. We are in Sri Lanka, at the Buddhist Temple of the Tooth during Esala Perahera (the sacred procession of the Tooth Relic.) But a not-so-simple twist of fate interrupts U. C. Fates plans. God easily escapes, while Fate himself is killed (and by a pious mob of monks, no less.) Yet, instead of experiencing death, our protoplasmic protagonist is rescued by an unasked-for Resurrection. U. C. Fate instantly Awakens; both with God Consciousness and a far better sense of humor. From here, all the way to the hereafter, U. C. Fate goes on a Magical Mythos Tour. He revisits thousands of years of religious history, each of his steps on this Inter and Intra-Religious journey are taken while wearing satiric slippers. Culture, chronology, and traditional time simply lose their fixed frames as Ancient Greeks, modern Rock n Rollers, Catholic Conquistas of Spain, and present day Mormons, argue with tribal American Indians over whose Truth is True. The Incarnated God Quetzalcatl is also here to fulfill Meso-American prophecy (i.e. The Second Coming only salsa style.) After this cosmic Love connection we come to the long awaited meeting with The Buddha. Buddhas Paradiso bridge is only open for Open-Ended-BeginningsThis means U. C. Fate must return Buddhas Tooth! He does so, thereby restoring every religion to their Rightful Rites.
